Bullet holes riddle home where woman was playing video game, 8-year-old sleeps
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) — Tenants of a Park Duvalle home are moving out after a shooting early Saturday morning left bullet holes throughout the residence.
The back of the house on Beech Street near Wilson Avenue was targeted, with bullets piercing the siding and windows of the home where the tenants had lived for seven months.
Woman narrowly escapes injury
Mandi was sitting on her bed playing Fortnite when bullets came through her room. One bullet punched through the drywall near where she was sitting.
“You kind of just go into survival mode, I guess, I just dove I don’t know,” Mandi said. She believes her dog may have helped protect her during the shooting.
“She got this dog for me five months before she passed, we’ve been through a lot of stuff, I think I survived because that dog was next to me covering both of us,” she said.
Multiple rooms hit by gunfire
Mandi’s room sustained holes in the window, frame, and walls. An upstairs room where an 8-year-old boy normally sleeps was also hit, with bullets stopping in the hallway drywall.
“This is a child’s room, so horrible,” Mandi said, noting that toys remained where the boy’s bed had been located.
Previous shooting reported
Mandi said a neighbor told her the house had been shot at last July, a month before she moved in. She suspects the prior tenants may have been the targets. Police say they have no prior report at this address.
“We didn’t know whether to believe it or not because our landlords did not disclose it, but now we know that, I kind of believe that’s a fact,” Mandi said.
Mandi described herself and her roommates as quiet tenants.
“It’s just crazy, we don’t have anyone over, like we’re very boring women honestly, we serve all day when we come home we don’t want to talk to people, we want to be left alone,” she said.
The tenants are packing up and plan to move out before rent is due in two weeks. Mandi said she is unsure if the bullet damage will affect her security deposit.
Detectives are investigating. No arrests have been made. Maintenance was scheduled to replace the broken windows.
