Louisville-based WEHR Constructors has been awarded the contract to build a new $50.2 million elementary school in Radcliff for Hardin County Schools.

The school, which has not yet been named, will be located off Joe Prather Highway next to the North Middle School campus.

The project was originally estimated at $40 million, but rising material costs significantly increased the final price.

The more than 103,000-square-foot facility will serve about 800 students from preschool through fifth grade. Once completed, it will replace North Park Elementary School, which currently serves only preschool and kindergarten students and is located nearby on North Logsdon Parkway.

Like the design used for Cecilia Valley Elementary, buses will unload students at the rear of the building, leading directly into the cafeteria.

According to JRA Architects President Rob Deal, the building’s most striking feature is its length.

“The building is so long,” Deal said when renderings were first presented.

To make the gymnasium entrances and the main school entrance stand out, a different style of stone will be used to contrast with the rest of the brick exterior.

Hardin County Schools Community Relations Specialist John Wright said construction is expected to begin in mid-February.

The school is tentatively scheduled to open at the start of the 2028–29 school year.

Major construction costs include $8.2 million for electrical work, $6.4 million for masonry, nearly $5.9 million for plumbing and mechanical systems, $4.7 million for roofing, another $4.7 million for general construction, $3.3 million for site work and $1.9 million for geothermal systems.
