LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) – Jeffersonville Police say a suspect in a child molestation case was found shot dead while officers were executing a search warrant on Thursday.

The department received a report involving an alleged child molestation case on Jan. 10, 2026.

Investigators later identified a 63-year-old suspect living in the 800 block of Marigold Drive. Detectives then obtained a search warrant for the suspect’s residence.

On Jan. 15, 2026, investigators went to the home around 3:46 p.m. to serve the warrant. Officers knocked on the door, which a woman opened while holding a child.

JPD said that moments after investigators began speaking with the woman outside the home, they heard a sound that resembled a gunshot.

Police quickly escorted the woman and the child out of the house. Neither was injured.

Officers confirmed the suspect was the only other person inside the home. They then entered and found a man, believed to be the suspect, suffering from what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

JPD said the investigation remains active, with assistance from Indiana State Police.

Anyone with information related to the case is asked to contact the JPD Detective Division at (812) 285-6535
