Kentucky — Cold air settles over rooftops this morning as pavement remains stiff under winter’s grip. Even before the next round of snow arrives, lingering slick spots are keeping drivers cautious, and the pattern ahead points to more issues as the weekend approaches.

The National Weather Service in Louisville reports that cold temperatures will persist, with wind chills ranging from the single digits to the teens. Light snow is expected Friday morning across southern Indiana and north-central Kentucky, with a dusting to around a half-inch possible. More snow showers could return Friday night into Saturday, with higher totals east of I-65, where up to 2 inches may accumulate on roadways.

In Louisville, the Friday morning commute could turn slick quickly as light snow falls during colder hours. Even minor accumulation may reduce traction on I-64, I-65, and I-71, particularly on bridges and elevated ramps. Some melting is possible during the afternoon, but refreezing is likely once temperatures drop again after sunset.

Saturday remains gray and cold with scattered snow showers. Highs are expected to stay in the low 30s, and untreated surfaces could ice over after dark. Sunday looks drier but colder, with highs near the mid-20s and another freezing night ahead.

Drivers are advised to slow down, leave extra following distance, and avoid sudden braking. Residents are encouraged to protect pipes, check on pets, and limit time outdoors during colder nights. Conditions may appear calm at times, but winter hazards can develop quickly.

Cold weather is expected to hold into early next week, and additional advisories remain possible as systems move through.
