LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) — A man is hospitalized after being shot inside a liquor store in Louisville’s Russell neighborhood, while his friend has been arrested for firing a gun in the air and driving under the influence.
The shooting occurred just before 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 16, at Lorie’s Liquors on West Market Street. Louisville Police responded to the scene and found a man in his 40s shot in the stomach. He was taken to UofL Hospital and underwent surgery.
The suspect who fired the shot inside the store fled before police arrived and remains at large.
After the shooting, the victim’s friend, Jacori Doyle, who had been drinking, fired a gun multiple times outside the store before fleeing in his vehicle. Doyle was arrested shortly after and charged with two counts of wanton endangerment and driving under the influence. He is scheduled to appear in court at 9 a.m. Wednesday.
Police said Doyle is not believed to have shot the man inside the store, and his actions were not in defense of the victim.
LMPD’s Non-Fatal Shooting Unit is investigating and actively searching for the shooter.
