LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — A 31-year-old man has been sentenced to life in prison for a fatal shooting that occurred in downtown Louisville in June 2023.

Louisville Metro Police initially arrested Timothy Wright and Willetta Lewis in connection with the shooting death of 38-year-old Jeffrey Bizzle, which happened on June 1, 2023.

Court records show Lewis stole items from Bizzle near 1st and Jacob streets, after which Bizzle was shot by another man.

Police said a witness identified Lewis through surveillance video, and investigators also used the footage to identify Wright as the person who shot Bizzle.

On Thursday, Dec. 11, a Jefferson County jury found Wright guilty of murder and recommended a life sentence. Wright waived a sentencing hearing and was formally sentenced the same day.

“We have no place for gun violence in our community,” Commonwealth’s Attorney Gerina Whethers said in a news release. “With the life sentence the jury recommended in this case, they reinforced that message. This outcome serves as a reminder to everyone to think twice and put down the gun, or they too will face severe consequences.”

Lewis accepted a plea agreement on May 23, 2025, pleading guilty to criminal facilitation to murder and entering an Alford plea to criminal facilitation of robbery.

Her sentencing was postponed until Wright’s case concluded. She is scheduled to be sentenced on Wednesday, Dec. 17.
