LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A man has been sentenced to life in prison after a jury found him guilty of murder on Dec. 11.

Commonwealth’s Attorney Gerina D. Whethers said Timothy Wright waived a formal sentencing hearing and received his sentence the same day.

“We have no place for gun violence in our community,” Whethers said. “With the life sentence the jury recommended in this case, they reinforced that message. This outcome serves as a reminder to everyone to think twice and put down the gun, or they too will face severe consequences.”

Police said the shooting occurred around 4:35 a.m. on June 1, 2023, when Wright fatally shot 38-year-old Jeffrey Bizzle near East Jacob and South Brook streets.

Authorities recovered the weapon on Sept. 10, 2023, and said it was in the possession of Wright and a co-defendant at the time.

The co-defendant, Willetta Lewis, accepted a plea agreement in May 2025. Prosecutors said she pleaded guilty to criminal facilitation to murder and entered an Alford plea to criminal facilitation of robbery.

Whethers said Wright is not eligible for probation or shock probation.
