LOUISVILLE, Ky. (FOX 56) — Dejuane Anderson, the woman accused of killing 5-year-old Cairo Jordan in 2022 and allegedly hiding his body in a suitcase in Washington County, Indiana, made her first court appearance on Monday.

According to Louisville’s FOX affiliate WDRB, Anderson was arraigned in Louisville on Dec. 15, nearly a week after her case was dismissed in Indiana and her trial was transferred across the river.

Court records show she faces charges including complicity to murder, complicity to manslaughter, complicity to first-degree criminal abuse of a child 12 years old or under, and complicity to abuse of a corpse.

During the arraignment, Anderson entered a plea of not guilty and is being held on a $500,000 cash bond.

Anderson was originally charged in April 2022 after a mushroom hunter discovered Cairo Jordan’s body stuffed in a suitcase in rural Washington County. Investigators said the child was clean, clothed, and showed no signs of being placed in the suitcase alive, indicating he likely died in Indiana before being left in the woods.

Anderson is scheduled to appear in court next on Jan. 27, 2026, at 10:30 a.m.
