The two LMPD officers reunited with the Rayburn family just days before Thanksgiving.

New bodycam video shows Louisville Metro Police officers running into a burning home earlier this year to save a child’s life.

In a social media post Thursday, LMPD said it was a call no officer ever forgets.

“A house fire with children trapped inside,” the department wrote.

The fire happened in March. When officers arrived, the Rayburn family’s home was already engulfed in flames, with smoke pouring into the sky.

“Without hesitation, Officers Capito and Richardson charged into the inferno,” LMPD said.

The officers used a fire extinguisher to fight the flames and searched for the missing boy still inside.

A courageous neighbor also helped, climbing through a broken bedroom window to hand the unconscious child to the officers, who immediately began first aid.

The boy spent weeks in the hospital recovering from severe burns. LMPD said another child in the home was also seriously burned.

The children’s mother, Brandi Rayburn, later contacted LMPD, hoping her sons, Camdyn and Coltyn, could meet the officers once they recovered.

Just days before Thanksgiving, that heartwarming reunion finally took place.

The boys gave the officers gift baskets as the family thanked them for their life-saving actions.

“I appreciate it more than just a ‘hey, you did good’ from a commanding officer or a letter. Just having kids cry seeing you is… it’s a different feeling,” Capito said. “I would do it again.”
