Four men were detained Wednesday after police said they enticed a Portland man into an SUV with a promise of money before preventing him from leaving.
Vancouver police arrived at the 3500 block of Southeast 164th Avenue after the victim’s wife contacted 911 to report his kidnapping.
Police said four men in a black Chevrolet Suburban approached the victim in Portland and asked if he wanted to earn money by cashing a check for them. The victim agreed to get inside the SUV but grew concerned about his safety when he was not permitted to exit, according to authorities.
As the truck approached Vancouver, the victim communicated his whereabouts to his wife, who reported it to police.
Vancouver police and the Washington State Patrol intercepted the SUV as it drove down SE 164th Avenue toward State Route 14. Officers detained four persons inside.
Troopers eventually discovered the victim on foot a short distance away. He did not sustain any injuries, according to authorities.
The suspects, Akeem J. Mattis, Dennis D. Nelson, Corey D. Jenkins, and Jerome T. Boyd, were arrested and placed into Clark County Jail on charges of second-degree kidnapping.
