The former chief operating officer of Doctor Aromas, which sells luxury home and commercial fragrance products, is accused of obtaining over $930,000 in unauthorized compensation and payments over nearly five years, according to a North Miami Police Department arrest report.
Jacqueline Campos, 48, of Coral Springs, was arrested Tuesday on accusations of organized plot to defraud involving property worth $50,000 or more and first-degree grand theft.
According to the complaint, police investigated claims of fraud and grand theft involving BOSEM Corp., doing business as Doctor Aromas, situated at 1996 NE 148th Terrace in North Miami.
Investigators claimed Campos acted as the company’s chief operational officer and had access to its ADP TotalSource payroll system and QuickBooks Online accounting software.
Police allege that the conspiracy occurred between roughly Aug. 28, 2021, and July 10, 2026.
The company’s owner told investigators he was obliged to approve a payroll document every two weeks that stated Campos’ permitted compensation as $2,307.70 every pay period.
According to the arrest complaint, Campos sent him images of manually made Excel files via email rather than genuine ADP payroll exports.
Forensic analysis finds over $930,000 in unauthorized payments
As part of the inquiry, investigators examined a forensic payroll and spending analysis performed by a certified public accounting firm.
The investigation examined 131 payroll papers with ADP TotalSource records for 126 validated pay periods.
According to the study, the research revealed that Campos got more than her approved remuneration in each of the 126 pay periods, totaling $874,885.59.
The study also revealed $221,632.64 in payments made to Campos outside of the standard payroll process. According to investigators, the proprietor of the company confirmed that $57,888.99 of those payments were never approved.
Investigators stated the total confirmed illegal loss to the corporation was $932,774.58.
According to the report, the forensic analysis discovered that Campos personally entered five unapproved increases to her own pay rate in the ADP system between January 2022 and April 2023, while continuing to provide the company’s owner with payroll documents that showed her authorized rate as unchanged.
Campos is also accused of inserting negative values into payroll deduction fields to enhance her net compensation, removing transactions from the company’s accounting records to hide them from regular reports, and routing at least one payment under the name of another employee to disguise the true recipient.
Police: Unauthorized payroll submitted after termination
Doctor Aromas terminated Campos’ job for cause on July 7, according to the report.
Investigators believe that later that same day, after her employment had already been terminated, Campos submitted and approved a final improper payroll run through ADP TotalSource that paid her an additional $5,712.10 beyond her regular wage.
According to authorities, Campos confirmed in a sworn affidavit in a separate legal matter that she manually filed the July 7 payroll run.
According to the newspaper, the owner of the company and the forensic accountant who prepared the analysis testified under oath during a hearing on July 9.
The arrest report states that the presiding judge granted a temporary injunction after finding that the evidence established Campos had misappropriated company funds using her position of trust.
Based on the company’s admissions, forensic analysis, business records, civil hearing testimony, and Campos’ sworn admission, the investigating officer concluded that there was probable cause to charge her with organized plan to defraud and first-degree grand theft.
Campos turned herself in to North Miami police around 2 p.m. Tuesday.
According to the report, an investigator asked Campos if she wanted to give a statement, but she rejected based on her attorney’s recommendation.
She was detained and brought to the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center.
As of Wednesday morning, she was still there and was scheduled to appear in bond court later that day.
