Indiana State Police reported that an escaped prisoner in Northwest Indiana had been apprehended.
On Tuesday afternoon, state police said they handed the individual’s custody to Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
They stated that an ICE officer was bringing the person to a holding facility for processing as he drove westbound on I-94 around Exit 22 for Burns Harbor/Porter.
According to state police, the prisoner broke free from his handcuffs during transit and jumped out of the moving van, fleeing north across the highway into a brush line.
The escapee was spotted Tuesday night in a marsh region, cold and wet from hiding in the water for five hours, and was apprehended without incident, according to state police.
No other information was shared.
