Five people were detained Thursday morning after the Georgia Attorney General’s Human Trafficking and Gang Prosecution Units carried out simultaneous operations in McDuffie and Lincoln counties.
The arrests are part of an ongoing human trafficking and gang investigation.
The attorney general’s office reported that all five were apprehended without incident.
The following people face charges in Richmond County:
- Larry James Mance, 58, of Thomson — RICO, trafficking of persons for sexual servitude and two counts of sexual exploitation of children
- Shawanna Brown Mance, 47, of Augusta — RICO, trafficking of persons for sexual servitude and pimping
- Christopher Jerome Carter, 48, of Thomson — RICO, trafficking of persons for sexual servitude and four counts of violation of the Street Gang Terrorism and Prevention Act
- John Peyton Norman, 33, of Lincolnton — RICO, trafficking of persons for sexual servitude and three counts of violation of the Street Gang Terrorism and Prevention Act
- Robert Richard Vantassell, 31, of Thomson — RICO and two counts of violation of the Street Gang Terrorism and Prevention Act
The attorney general’s office also announced new charges in Richmond County against Jimmy Mance, who had previously been arrested and indicted in McDuffie County in June.
Under Richmond County’s new allegations, he faces RICO, three counts of trafficking in individuals for sexual servitude, and pimping.
The agencies involved in the operation include the Georgia Bureau of Investigation’s Thomson Regional Investigative Office, the McDuffie County Sheriff’s Office, the Thomson Police Department, the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office, the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office, and the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office.
The Attorney General’s Human Trafficking Prosecution Unit and Gang Prosecution Unit both have regional offices in Augusta.
