A Silver Spring car salesman is enjoying an early birthday surprise after winning $50,000 on a Maryland Lottery scratch-off only months before turning 50.
According to the Maryland Lottery, the long-time lottery player won the win on July 9 after purchasing several 50X the Cash scratch-off tickets at State Line Market, situated at 7817 Eastern Avenue in Silver Spring. After scratching several non-winning tickets, he nearly gave up before realizing that the last ticket in the stack was a winner. He approached the store clerk to scan the ticket, thinking he had won $5,000, only to find out it was worth $50,000 instead.
The winner, who turns 50 in October, said he intends to spend a portion of the prize to pay expenses and celebrate his milestone birthday in a particular way. State Line Market will get a $500 bonus from the Maryland Lottery for selling the winning ticket.
