A 21-year-old Ohio woman has been taken into custody after her toddler was discovered extremely emaciated and bruised. Investigators believe the girl was left home alone overnight for months while her mother worked.
According to jail records and a criminal complaint, Naomi Holloway is charged with child endangerment as a result of the discovery. Authorities allege Holloway failed to provide proper care and supervision for her daughter, who was two years old at the time and was admitted to the hospital on January 20 weighing only 17 pounds.
According to a probable cause affidavit, the child’s low weight was caused by a protracted period of insufficient food and drink intake. According to Cincinnati Children’s Hospital, a typical weight range for a 2-year-old girl is 22 to 32 pounds, indicating that the toddler was substantially underweight for her age.
Holloway acknowledged to feeding the girl with inadequate food and drink for an extended period, as well as leaving her home alone during overnight shifts from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. The affidavit also mentions a visible injury consistent with neglect, stating that the child’s skin had begun to peel due to prolonged exposure or a lack of treatment. The girl, who is now three years old, is still the subject of an ongoing welfare inquiry.
According to jail records, Holloway is presently jailed at the Hamilton County Justice Center on a $50,000 bond. She has a separate court appearance scheduled for Wednesday on unrelated allegations such as criminal trespass, disorderly conduct, and driving under the influence.
A hearing on the child endangerment charge is set for July 6. The case is still being investigated, and more information is expected to emerge as it moves through the courts.
