Police: Woman Dies After Shooting On Indy’s West Side, Multiple People Arrested

A woman is dead in a shooting Saturday afternoon on Indianapolis’ west side, according to police.

According to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, officers were dispatched to the 5500 block of West 10th Street, just off North Lynhurst Drive, soon before 4:30 p.m. on a complaint of a shooting.

Officers arrived and discovered a woman with injuries consistent with gunshot wounds. She was brought to the hospital and later died.

IMPD said they detained many people at the scene and are investigating their role, if any, in the incident. According to the IMPD, the inmates were released on Sunday morning.

“Preliminarily, we believe that this started as a disturbance between known individuals that turned into gunfire,” IMPD Sgt. Amanda Hibschman said. “Violence is not the solution. “This is not the way to address our problems. It does not fix the problem. If anything, it just produces new ones.”

IMPD asks that anybody who witnessed the shooting contact Det. Aaron Ramos at the IMPD Homicide Office at 317-327-3475 or [email protected].
