Missing 6-year-old boy from Plainfield discovered dead in pond

Plainfield police have reported that the 6-year-old boy who went missing from a suburban neighborhood on Saturday night has been discovered dead.

According to a Plainfield Police Department Facebook post, the toddler walked out shortly after 9 p.m. near 10700 Cardinal Circle in northeast Plainfield. That is near South Raceway Road and East County Road 100 South.

Police said in an update Sunday morning that the child was last seen approximately an hour before the report was filed.

While searching, emergency responders discovered the boy in a nearby pond. Despite life-saving measures, the boy died on the spot. The tragedy has shocked neighbors and residents.

“Oh, that scares me to death,” said Cindy Gordon, a Hendricks County resident. “You should always, always, always watch your children if there’s any type of water around.”

Police recognized the youngster as Mohamedamin Mohamed. The Hendricks County coroner was scheduled to identify the child’s cause and manner of death at a later date.

“It was shocking because I rarely see kids playing around the pond,” neighbor Becky Ping told News 8. “I feel sorry for the family; I’m so sorry for them.”

Anyone with information should contact the Hendricks County 911 Center immediately at 317-839-8700.
