A Fruitland Park man was apprehended for alleged theft of beer and ice from Walmart.
Officers arrived to Walmart, situated at 2501 Citrus Blvd., for a theft at approximately 10:30 a.m. on Friday, May 15, according to an arrest report from the Leesburg Police Department. During the initial call, they discovered that 55-year-old Jerry Bernard Easter had just left the business with a cart full of stolen products.
As he walked across the parking lot, loss prevention officers alerted law enforcement. He said he paid for everything but didn’t have a receipt. He was then led back to the loss prevention office to authenticate the items, according to the report.
The officers discovered that Easter had taken $47.43 worth of products, including Bud Light beer, milk, Honey Grahams, two bags of ice, and some hot meals. A later investigation into his criminal history indicated that he had two or more prior theft convictions, according to the report.
Easter was arrested for petit theft (two prior offenses) and put into Lake County Jail. The Arkansas native was released after posting a $1,000 bond.
