1 person discovered dead after smoking while using oxygen sparks Louisville apartment fire

A person died Sunday morning when a fire broke out at an apartment building in Louisville’s Southside neighborhood.

At 9:47 a.m., Louisville Fire Capt. Donovan Sims reported a smoke-filled hallway at an apartment complex in the 100 block of Colonial Oaks Court. Crews arrived. The fire was brought under control in five minutes after firefighters saw smoke pouring from the two-story building.

The incident was restricted to one room of an apartment, and no other people were displaced.

Sims stated that 1 inhabitant of the flat was discovered dead inside the unit.

Arson investigators discovered that the cause of the incident was smoking while utilizing oxygen.
