Two injured in Boone County shooting; suspect dies after Highway 63 chase ends in ditch

A man accused of shooting two people died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound following a high-speed chase on Highway 63.

Boone County Captain Brian Leer told KRCG the shooting happened on Douglas Drive, off Highway PP, north of Columbia.

Two people suffered gunshot wounds, but officials have not released their conditions.

Leer said the suspect drove north from Columbia toward Randolph County on Highway 63, prompting a high-speed pursuit involving law enforcement.

Authorities deployed spike strips in an effort to stop the vehicle.

A PIT maneuver later forced the vehicle off the road, sending it into a ditch.

Leer said officers found the suspect dead in the vehicle with a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
