Mother and son die in tragic water incident at London park

A mother and her young son, aged 34 and 7, have died after getting into difficulty in the water at a west London park, police have confirmed.

Emergency services were called to Elthorne Park in Ealing shortly before 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, where both were pulled from the water.

Despite efforts to save them, both were pronounced dead at the scene.

“Further inquiries carried out by officers into the incident have established it was a tragic accident and the deaths of the woman and child who very sadly lost their lives are being treated as non-suspicious,” the Metropolitan Police said Sunday evening.

The force added that next of kin have been notified and are receiving support from specialist officers, noting that this is an extremely difficult time and the family has asked for privacy.

Detective Superintendent Pete Thackray, from the Met’s west area command unit, praised “the efforts of the first responders and members of the public who did their very best in an incredibly challenging situation.”

Jon Ball, Liberal Democrat councillor for Ealing Common, also shared his condolences.

“My thoughts go out to the family of those involved in the tragic accident in Elthorne Park today,” he wrote.
