Joseph Lawson Appeals Conviction in Crystal Rogers Murder Case

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) – One of the men convicted in connection with the murder of Crystal Rogers is now seeking to clear his name.

Joseph Lawson filed an appeal on Wednesday, April 15, requesting that his conviction be overturned.

Lawson received a 25-year prison sentence after a jury found him guilty of conspiracy to commit murder and tampering with physical evidence. He is now asking the Kentucky Supreme Court to overturn that decision. His earlier request for a new trial has already been denied.

Lawson stood trial alongside Brooks Houck, Rogers’ former boyfriend and the father of her young son. Houck was convicted of murder and tampering with physical evidence and was sentenced to life in prison.

Joseph’s father, Steven Lawson, was also tried and convicted last summer on charges of conspiracy to commit murder and tampering with physical evidence. He received a 17-year prison sentence.

Steven Lawson filed his appeal last Thursday, April 9.
