A woman died Saturday after a tragic accident involving a parade float during a St. Patrick’s Day parade in Louisville, Kentucky.

Authorities said the woman, believed to be in her 50s, was walking alongside a float when her foot became caught, causing her to fall and be pulled underneath before being struck by a vehicle.

The incident occurred around 4 p.m., about an hour into the parade, according to reports from WHAS-TV.

Emergency responders quickly stopped the vehicle and provided medical assistance. The woman was transported to a hospital but later died from her injuries, according to WLKY. Officials have not yet released her identity.

“I am so sorry to hear about the tragic accident that took a woman’s life at today’s St. Patrick’s Day Parade,” Greenberg said in a statement. “Please join Rachel and me in keeping her family and friends in your prayers. May her memory be a blessing.”

The parade organizer, the Hibernian Cultural and Charitable Association, said it was “deeply saddened by the tragic accident” and extended condolences to the victim’s family and everyone affected.
