Two people were hospitalized Feb. 25 after two vehicles collided in a construction zone on eastbound Interstate 264 near the Westport Road off-ramp around 2 p.m., according to Louisville Metro Police Department spokesperson Aaron Ellis.
Emergency crews transported the two adults to a Louisville hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, Ellis said. The crash caused at least one vehicle to strike a barrier wall. Officers from the Eighth Division are continuing to investigate what led to the collision.
All eastbound lanes of I-264 near Westport and Brownsboro roads were temporarily shut down. Traffic started moving again around 3:08 p.m., a MetroSafe supervisor told The Courier Journal. Ellis advised Northeast Louisville commuters to consider alternate routes, noting that traffic in the eastbound lanes remained heavily congested.
Crews are widening I-264 between Westport Road and Interstate 71 in the construction zone where the crash occurred. Officials expect the project to wrap up by fall 2027. The improvements coincide with the near completion of Louisville’s new Veterans Affairs Medical Center.
