LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — Authorities are investigating after a person died while Louisville Solid Waste Management crews were conducting an alley cleanup.

A spokesperson for Louisville Metro Public Works said the incident occurred Thursday in the 2500 block of Cedar Street near 26th Street during a routine cleanup. The spokesperson noted that crews perform alley cleanups hundreds of times each day across the city.

Louisville Metro Police Department spokesperson Adam Sears said Friday night that investigators are looking into the death of a woman who suffered injuries “from contact with equipment on a garbage truck.” Because the incident involved a city vehicle, LMPD’s Public Integrity Unit is leading the investigation.

Officials placed the employees involved on administrative leave while the investigation continues, following standard procedure.
