Cold temperatures continue across the Commonwealth, driving a steady increase in energy demand.
Louisville, Ky. (WBKO) – Cold weather shows no signs of easing across the Commonwealth, and the need for higher energy use keeps rising.

Louisville Gas and Electric Company and Kentucky Utilities Company are asking customers to cut back on energy use where possible.

“As heating systems are working overtime to keep up with the cold and customers are hunkering down at home, we’re seeing a rise in customers’ overall energy demand,” said Shannon Montgomery, Vice President of Customer Services for LG&E and KU.

Montgomery added, “We encourage customers to take steps to conserve energy, which can directly impact bills and help reduce potential strain on the regional electric grid.”

Here are a few steps customers can take to conserve energy:

Turn off unnecessary lights and appliances.
Set your thermostat to the lowest comfortable temperature.
Wear extra layers, such as a sweatshirt or sweater.
Run dishwashers, dryers, and washing machines only when they are full.

LG&E and KU will also work with customers enrolled in programs designed to reduce energy usage.
