PERRY CO., Ky. (WYMT) — As talk of a major winter storm moving through Kentucky this weekend continues, many residents spent Wednesday preparing in case they are forced to stay home for several days.
Shoppers were seen filling carts with essential items such as food, water, toilet paper, and extra batteries.
Sharon Beaver was among those preparing at the store. While she said she has been snowed in before, she still has concerns about the potential severity of the storm.
“I worry about it being real bad, and the power going out,” Beaver said.
Shelby Ritchie and his wife were also out shopping. Ritchie said discussion of the possible storm reminded him of the last major winter event he experienced.
“Nobody moved for three days, you know, because it was the largest one I can remember having,” he said.
After visiting the grocery store, some residents also stopped at gas stations to stock up on fuel.
“I keep about 10 gallons of gasoline handy, you know, in case we have to use that little generator,” Ritchie said.
As they ran essential errands, residents said they are hoping for the best.
“I just hope the electricity doesn’t go off. It’s kind of hard to heat a mobile home without any electricity,” Ritchie added.
County officials are encouraging residents to finish preparations this week, including filling prescriptions, arranging backup heating options, and stocking up on groceries.
