LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — A Louisville man arrested after a tense standoff with police near St. Matthews on Monday afternoon later admitted to his involvement in a weekend shooting, investigators said.
Louisville Metro Police were called to the 100 block of Wiltshire Avenue just after noon on a trouble run, according to police spokesperson Aaron Ellis. Investigators said an armed man, believed to be experiencing a mental health crisis, had forced someone out of a home and barricaded himself inside with a 6-month-old baby.
Police secured the area and called in LMPD SWAT teams. Around 3:20 p.m., the man surrendered peacefully with the infant. The baby was evaluated by EMS and was not injured.
Police identified the suspect as 28-year-old Clint Dean Lobig. He was arrested and charged with strangulation, assault, unlawful imprisonment, endangering the welfare of a minor and other offenses.
According to an arrest citation, Lobig’s mother called 911 around 8:30 a.m., reporting her son was aggressive and agitated before the call disconnected. She later texted dispatch the address. Police said Lobig forced his mother out of the apartment and barricaded himself inside with the baby.
The citation states Lobig allegedly assaulted his mother earlier by throwing her onto a bed and smothering her with his hand for about a minute, restricting her ability to breathe.
Police also said Lobig admitted to shooting at an SUV Sunday evening near a laundromat in the 3700 block of Lexington Road. Lobig told investigators he believed the vehicle was following him. Officers later found a man with gunshot wounds, who was taken to UofL Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The victim told police he had stopped to check his GPS when someone began shooting at him.
Lobig is being held at Metro Corrections and is scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday morning.
