LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) – Louisville Metro police say a man is facing several charges after barricading himself inside a home with a baby on Jan. 19.
According to an arrest citation, Clint Lobig became agitated and aggressive before the incident. That morning, Lobig entered his mother’s room and screamed at her to “stop yelling.” He then allegedly threw her off the bed and smothered her with his left hand for about a minute.
Court documents say the victim called police, telling them her son was acting crazy and had been involved in a shooting behind a laundromat the night before. She told dispatchers she could not continue the call, and the line was disconnected. She later texted dispatch with her address, adding that a 6-month-old baby and a gun were inside the apartment. Lobig then allegedly forced his mother out of the apartment and barricaded himself inside.
Officers arrived around noon at the apartment in the 100 block of Wiltshire Avenue. Police say arriving officers secured the scene, and LMPD’s SWAT and HNT units were called in as a precaution.
The arrest citation states officers repeatedly asked Lobig to come out unarmed and with the baby. Lobig refused, and officers then asked if he would hand the infant over to EMS for safety. Lobig allegedly yelled that he would throw the baby out of a second-story window.
After an hours-long standoff, Lobig surrendered peacefully around 3:20 p.m., police say. Officers then secured the baby.
EMS checked the 6-month-old, and officials say the infant was not harmed.
Lobig faces charges of strangulation, domestic violence assault, unlawful imprisonment, and endangering the welfare of a minor.
He is also charged with assault and being a convicted felon in possession of a handgun. Police say Lobig admitted to being involved in the shooting near a laundromat close to his home in the 3700 block of Lexington Road. He reportedly told officers he believed a maroon SUV was following him and fired shots at the vehicle.
Lobig is expected to appear in court for arraignment on Jan. 20.
