An unvaccinated out-of-state traveler may have exposed others to measles after staying several nights in Lexington, according to the Lexington-Fayette County Health Department.
Health officials said the individual stayed at the Hyatt Place in Hamburg from December 31, 2025, through January 2, 2026. The department shared the information on social media.
“Measles is a highly contagious respiratory virus that can cause serious health complications, especially in young children. Vaccination is the best protection against measles,” the health department said. “If you have concerns about exposure to measles, contact your health care provider.”
The Cabinet for Health and Family Services reported that Kentucky recorded 13 measles cases last year.
This comes after state health officials recently announced another potential exposure involving an unvaccinated traveler who visited the Ark Encounter in Williamstown on December 29 and stayed at the Holiday Inn & Suites in Dry Ridge from December 28 to December 30.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, measles spreads easily through the air when an infected person coughs or sneezes. The CDC says one infected person can spread the virus to 9 out of 10 people who are not protected.
Common symptoms include fever, cough, runny nose, red eyes, and a rash. The CDC recommends the measles vaccine series at 12 to 15 months of age, followed by a second dose at 4 to 6 years old.
