The family of a missing 19-year-old Texas woman has shared a heartbreaking update on social media after her body was found near her home, saying their beloved daughter is now “with the Good Lord.”

The search for Camilla Mendoza Olmo ended tragically after she was discovered dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound in a field about 100 yards from her northwest Bexar County home.

Camila Mendoza Olmo was found Tuesday beside a handgun near her home outside San Antonio. She was last seen on Christmas Eve and was reported missing after she failed to return from a walk.

Her family expressed gratitude to those who helped during the search. “We want to give a humble and heartfelt thank you to all the news reporters, police detectives, FBI, churches, friends, family, and many other communities for your support and prayers,” her aunt, Nancy Olmos, wrote on social media.

“Our beloved Camila Mendoza Olmos is now with the Good Lord.

“We kindly ask that you please respect our pain and, most importantly, keep my cousin Rosario — Camila’s mom — and my nephew Carlos — Camila’s brother — in your prayers during this incredibly difficult time,” she added.

The medical examiner ruled that Camila died by suicide from a gunshot wound to the head. Officials believe she had been dead for five or six days before she was found.

A 9mm handgun belonging to a relative was reported missing around the time of her disappearance, though police said it remains unclear whether that weapon matches the firearm found at the scene.

Camila’s disappearance prompted an extensive, round-the-clock search. She was last seen on Wednesday morning, Dec. 24, and authorities said she may have been facing “imminent danger” when she went missing, according to Bexar County Sheriff Javier Salazar.

Her body was located shortly before 5 p.m. on Tuesday, nearly a week later, in an overgrown area that had been searched previously but was revisited by sheriff’s deputies and FBI agents.

Salazar said Olmos was believed to have been experiencing depression and suicidal thoughts while struggling with school, work, and a recently ended relationship.

“She was a young person going through a very tough time in her life,” Salazar said.

“I use this as an opportunity to remind everybody out there, whether you got kids this age or even well into adulthood, check on people and don’t take anything for granted,” he added. “If you are going through a crisis yourself, reach out and get help.”

Olmos was a student at Northwest Vista College and hoped to become an orthodontist.
