Unemployment Claims Rise in Kentucky Last Week

Initial applications for unemployment benefits in Kentucky increased last week compared with the previous week, according to data released Thursday by the U.S. Department of Labor.

New jobless claims, often used as a measure of layoffs, climbed to 4,005 for the week ending Dec. 26, up from 2,171 the prior week, the Labor Department reported.

Nationally, U.S. unemployment claims fell to 199,000 last week, a decrease of 16,000 from 215,000 the week before on a seasonally adjusted basis.

Delaware recorded the largest percentage increase in weekly claims, with filings rising 88.2%. Arkansas experienced the biggest percentage decline, as new claims dropped by 66.9%.
