LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A firefighter was injured and a homeowner displaced following a house fire in a residential neighborhood near South English Station Road.
The fire broke out just before midnight at a home on the 14000 block of Harkaway Avenue.
Crews from Anchorage Middletown Fire and EMS arrived five minutes after dispatch to find heavy smoke and flames coming from the front and left side of the home. Firefighters initially made entry but had to retreat as conditions worsened.
Despite frigid temperatures, an icy work scene, and the fire’s intensity, crews contained the blaze to the structure, which sustained extensive damage throughout.
The lone occupant, who discovered the fire and called 911, had safely exited before firefighters arrived. It took 38 firefighters and EMS personnel, including Quint 51 from Jeffersontown Fire, over an hour to control the fire.
One firefighter suffered a minor ankle injury and was treated and released at the scene. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
