Days after a car was seen driving into the Ohio River, Louisville Metro Police recovered a vehicle and an unidentified body on Dec. 1, LMPD spokesperson Aaron Ellis confirmed in a release.
According to the initial report, officers from LMPD’s First Division responded to calls about a water rescue near the Great Lawn area of Waterfront Park around 7:30 p.m. on Nov. 29. A tugboat crew had reported seeing a passenger vehicle drive off the waterfront near Joe’s Crab Shack, though it was unclear whether it was intentional.
LMPD’s First Division, along with the River Unit and Louisville Fire Department, searched the water and found a vehicle around 9 p.m., but no victim was inside. Due to dangerous currents, the search had to be paused.
Officers resumed efforts and recovered the vehicle containing what appeared to be an adult body around 5:50 p.m. on Dec. 1, Ellis said.
