MCCREARY COUNTY, Ky. — A McCreary County man struck it rich while hunting, winning $1.1 million after spending $30 on a Kentucky Lottery game.

The man, who wishes to remain anonymous, was sitting in a deer stand when he discovered his jackpot win. Inspired by recent big online payouts his family had won, he decided to try his luck while waiting for deer.

“I’m in the deer stand, and I thought, you know what, I’m going to try,” he said. After small initial wins of $1,500 and $200, he hit the jackpot, nearly falling from his stand in shock.

He immediately called his wife to confirm the win, joking that she initially thought he had spotted a big buck instead. After sending her a picture of his winnings, the couple realized they had won the $1.1 million prize, which amounted to $794,500.22 after taxes.

The couple plans to pay off debt, buy a new home with land, and save some of the winnings for their family. “I probably would have fallen out of the deer stand that drops down 30, 40 feet into a holler,” the man said. “It took me 50 years to become a millionaire all at once.”
