KENTUCKY — Residents struggling to pay heating bills can soon apply for help through the state’s Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) Fall Subsidy, which begins accepting applications Nov. 3 through Dec. 12 on a first-come, first-served basis.

The program offers a one-time payment to help eligible households cover home heating costs. Administered by Community Action Kentucky, LIHEAP is available in all 120 counties. Applications can be submitted at local Community Action Agency offices.

Benefit amounts vary depending on housing type, fuel source, and income level. Payments are sent directly to the household’s energy vendor and can be used as a credit on utility accounts for electricity, natural gas, propane, coal, wood, or fuel oil.

To qualify, household income must be at or below 150% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines. Receiving previous LIHEAP benefits does not affect eligibility, and applicants don’t need a disconnect notice, overdue bill, or eviction notice to apply.

Applicants should bring:

  • Proof of Social Security Number or Permanent Residence card for each household member

  • Proof of income for all household members from the previous month

  • Most recent electric bill, or a statement from a landlord or utility provider if electricity is included in rent or prepaid

  • Account information for the main heating fuel and electric service

Residents can locate their nearest Community Action Agency by calling 800-456-3452 or visiting capky.org/network.

Community Action Kentucky partners with the Kentucky Cabinet for Health and Family Services to manage the program, which receives funding from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services through a federal block grant.
