Floyd County Prosecutor Chris Lane said authorities in Maryland arrested Marlon Love on a warrant issued earlier this year, charging him with murder and complicity to commit murder.
A Louisville man accused of killing 23-year-old Jalen Baker in a Christmas Eve shooting last year in southern Indiana has been taken into custody.
According to a probable cause affidavit, the 42-year-old faces charges in connection with Baker’s death outside StoneCrest Apartments on Grant Line Road in New Albany on Dec. 24, 2024.
At the time, New Albany Police Chief Todd Bailey said officers responded around 9:30 p.m. to reports of gunfire. They found Baker outside with multiple gunshot wounds and “no signs of life.” He was taken to Baptist Floyd Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Love’s extradition to Indiana is still pending. His arrest follows an earlier one related to the case — Kennedy Forrest, arrested in January, wasn’t charged with murder but with conspiracy to commit robbery, assisting a criminal, and obstruction of justice.
Court records show Forrest lived at the apartment complex at the time of the shooting. Police seized her phone and questioned her shortly afterward. Investigators later discovered she had been in an “on-again, off-again” relationship with Timothy Love, identified as Marlon Love’s presumed nephew.
Documents revealed that Timothy Love paid Forrest for information about Baker on the night of the shooting. Forrest admitted she had started a relationship with Baker because Timothy offered to pay her, believing Baker was being set up for a robbery. She also told police she overheard Marlon and Timothy discussing money problems, mentioning there was a “hit” on Baker and that “it would be easy to get money by collecting it off people’s heads.”
Forrest claimed Baker had committed two robberies, including one in Louisville. The Louisville victim allegedly offered $25,000 for a hit on Baker, according to court records.
Baker’s mother told investigators her son and Timothy Love shared a long, violent history. Police confirmed both men had previous gun and drug charges and were affiliated with rival gangs. They also linked Baker to a drive-by shooting at a residence once belonging to Timothy Love.
A neighbor at the StoneCrest Apartments reported seeing a man wearing a ski mask in the stairwell just before the gunfire. The witness described a Black male whose appearance matched Marlon Love’s driver’s license photo.
Surveillance footage later showed Marlon Love’s vehicle leaving the complex shortly after the shooting.
He currently has no court date set in Floyd County as authorities await his extradition.
Timothy Love, arrested in January for conspiracy to commit murder, accepted a plea deal and received a 19-year prison sentence. In exchange, attempted murder and robbery charges were dropped.
Forrest also took a plea deal, receiving 642 days of supervised probation, but she’s scheduled to appear in court on Nov. 24 for a probation violation dated Oct. 28.
