LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Two major interstate ramps in Louisville will be closed all weekend as crews work to improve roadway safety with a special surface treatment.

The Kentucky Transportation Department (KYTC) announced ramp closures on I-64 West and I-71 South starting Friday, Oct. 10.

“The weekend ramp closures are necessary for contract crews to apply high friction surface treatments as part of Team Kentucky’s ongoing efforts to enhance roadway safety,” KYTC officials said.

The following ramps will be closed from 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 10, through 5 a.m. Monday, Oct. 13:

  • I-71 South to I-65 South

  • I-64 West to I-65 South

KYTC explained that high friction surface treatments increase pavement friction, especially in wet conditions, and provide added protection for concrete surfaces.

Motorists are advised to follow posted detours, allow extra travel time, and exercise caution in the work zone.

KYTC also noted that the schedule may change due to weather or other unforeseen delays.
