A 69-year-old truck driver who was allegedly assaulted by former New York Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez in Indianapolis has been photographed in his hospital bed, bloodied and battered, following a violent altercation that left both men injured.
Graphic images show the elderly man wearing a neck brace, his face covered in blood, and deep wounds visible on his cheek and jaw. According to Fox59 anchor Angela Ganote, the victim’s family said, “He was cut in the fight, and it went through his cheek and hit his tongue.”
The man, identified only by his initials P.T., was working his route collecting cooking oil when the confrontation occurred shortly after midnight Saturday. He had parked his grease truck in an alley near a hotel when Sanchez allegedly approached him, according to an affidavit obtained by Fox59.
Because P.T. didn’t have his hearing aids in — the truck’s engine noise made conversation difficult — he leaned in to hear Sanchez, the affidavit said. P.T. told police Sanchez smelled strongly of alcohol and was slurring his speech. Moments later, the 6-foot-2, 230-pound former NFL player allegedly shoved P.T. against a wall, then threw him to the ground.
Fearing for his safety, the driver reportedly stabbed Sanchez in self-defense.
Sanchez, 38, was hospitalized in stable condition and later charged with battery resulting in bodily injury, unauthorized entry of a motor vehicle, and public intoxication endangering the life of another, according to the affidavit.
The investigation remains ongoing as both men recover from their injuries.
