CLAIBORNE COUNTY, Tenn. (WATE) — A 75-year-old man from Kentucky died following a crash in Claiborne County, with charges against the other driver pending the outcome of an investigation, according to the Tennessee Highway Patrol.
THP said Merle T. Chamberlain, 75, was driving south on US 25E in a Ford F-150 while another driver headed north in a Ford E55. Both vehicles were on a straightaway, with the Ford E55 traveling downhill.
According to THP’s preliminary report, the Ford E55 crossed into the southbound lane and struck Chamberlain’s truck head-on. Both vehicles came to an uncontrolled stop.
Chamberlain died from his injuries, and the other driver was hospitalized. Charges against the surviving driver remain “pending outcome of investigation,” THP said.
Both drivers were wearing seatbelts.
