Maryland Woman Indicted In $109K Medicaid Fraud Scheme After D.C. Bus Shooting Investigation

A 32-year-old Maryland woman has been indicted on 38 counts of fraud and theft after investigators claimed she billed Washington, D.C.’s Medicaid program for over $109,000 in services she never performed.

Camille Aba, of Jessup, was charged on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, with 18 charges of first-degree felony fraud, 18 counts of first-degree theft, one count of first-degree misdemeanor fraud, and one act of second-degree theft, according to U.S. Attorney Jeanine Ferris Pirro.

The probe began when officials investigated records associated with a suspect in a shooting on a Washington, D.C. bus.

According to prosecutors, Aba worked as a community support worker at Family Wellness Center between 2022 and 2023. Her responsibilities included providing support services to Medicaid enrollees getting care from the organization.

Investigators suspect Aba filed false claims to Family Wellness Center for treatments she did not provide, resulting in improper payments via the District’s Medicaid program.

The case came to the notice of the District of Columbia. The Washington Post published a report about a suspect who allegedly shot two individuals on a D.C. bus, prompting the Department of Health Care Finance to investigate.

Aba claimed she provided services to the shooting suspect many days before the occurrence. However, investigators claim she later modified her notes to show she had not communicated with him.

The difference prompted a closer examination of her billing records.

According to the agency, investigations discovered that Aba did not give services to the shooting suspect or countless other Medicaid users despite submitting claims stating differently.

Prosecutors say the bogus billing cost the D.C. Department of Health Care Finance more than $109,000 for services that were never provided.

The matter is being investigated by the D.C. Office of the Inspector General’s Medicaid Fraud Control Unit and the Major Crimes Section of the United States Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia.

Linda Monroe, an assistant US attorney, is prosecuting the case.

The felony status conference is planned for December 16, 2026. No trial date has been scheduled.
