3 suspects wanted after person assaulted and robbed near Towson University campus

Authorities are searching for three people after a person was beaten and robbed early Thursday near Towson University.

Towson University police were notified of the assault at 12:20 a.m. on October 22, according to an incident alert from the university.

Towson University police and Baltimore County police officers arrived at the first block of West Burke Avenue, in front of The Residences at 10 West Burke Avenue.

According to police, three criminals robbed and beat the victim, stealing personal belongings before escaping west on Burke Avenue.

Police believe the thieves fled in a black Toyota Camry, dropping the victim’s goods along the way.

Towson University said that the incident occurred on public property near campus.

The Residences at 10 West are designated by the university as student accommodation for upper-class and transfer students.

Towson University President Mark Ginsberg stated that the victim is not linked with the university.

The event has sparked new fears among some students about their safety, particularly at night.

Cailyn Little, a Towson University junior who lives at 10 West, reported hearing the emergency response from inside her apartment.

“I’m definitely nervous and more scared because a lot of stuff has been happening around here lately,” she replied.

Cailyn claimed she didn’t witness what happened, but she did hear police and emergency personnel outside.

“I heard the police cars and ambulances, but yeah, I can’t really see it from my building, but I did hear them,” she replied.

Kaylee Quevedo, a Towson University junior and transfer student, said the incident has made her even more apprehensive.

“I’m nervous too. “I’m a transfer student, so this is my first year here,” Quevedo explained. “I get nervous, too. “I don’t feel comfortable.”

Thursday’s event followed several other public safety issues at Towson University this year.

Nasir Majied, 22, a Towson University student, was fatally shot at Towson Circle in June.

In September, gunfire at the Cardiff Hall Apartments across from campus forced the university to issue a shelter-in-place order.

During the subsequent investigation, police detained 17 persons on weapons charges, including 15 adults and two adolescents, and seized multiple firearms.

Police have not stated that those arrested were responsible for shooting the victim.

Towson University junior Joshua Djidja says he feels safe on campus during the day but is concerned about safety after nightfall.

“I feel safe during the daytime, but at night I like to tend to just stay at my house,” he stated.

Joshua requested more security around Towson.

“Safety in general at Towson just needs to be more secure because I feel like as a community everybody is OK with being here, but I don’t think the outside can or should be continuing to come out in here and cause trouble,” he stated.

Following Thursday’s incident, Ginsberg sent a statement to the university community stating, “Enough is enough.”

Ginsberg stated that he has directed Towson University Police Chief Joe Herring and his leadership team to investigate all safety practices around campus.

The university also grants a long-term grant to support extra Baltimore County police public safety personnel in the communities surrounding campus. Ginsberg stated that funding will continue.

Ginsberg stated that all available university resources will be dedicated toward campus safety and that university administration will continue to collaborate with Baltimore County on strategies to prevent future public safety crises.

“We will use every resource at our disposal to protect our students, faculty, staff, and entire campus community,” Ginsberg stated.

Baltimore County police are still searching for the three suspects.

Anyone with information should contact Baltimore County Police at 410-887-2361.
