A man was discovered stabbed to death inside a West Philadelphia home Thursday morning, following a barricade situation that ended with a suspect surrendering to police.
Police were dispatched to the unit block of North Edgewood Street soon after 9 a.m. for a reported stabbing and for a man armed inside a home.
According to sources, the man was keeping two women upstairs in the house. Officers led the women to safety, but the suspect refused to step outside.
Following a brief exchange with SWAT officers, the suspect surrendered. Officers then located a man dead with stab wounds in a bedroom. According to sources, the victim appeared to have been there for quite some time.
Family members identified the victim as Mark Burton, 53. They claimed Burton had resided in the home with the suspect for almost two years and that they frequently clashed. Family members were unable to identify the two women who were removed from the apartment. By the time my sister arrived, they had called me back and said, ‘You have to get here.’ She is crying. “That’s how we knew it was our loved one,” Burton’s cousin Cyrell Green explained.
According to Green, the family is unaware of the circumstances behind the deadly stabbing. I have no idea what happened or how it happened; all I know is that no one deserves to be victimized in this way,” Green added.
According to police sources, the suspect is Marvis Davis, 52. Authorities did not release a photograph of the suspect on Thursday due to the ongoing official criminal process. And hopefully, justice will be served as it always is, but we have to take charge of this,” Green said.
