Two teenagers arrested after another teenager died in Lowndes County.
The Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office identified the suspect as Jaquarious Brooks, 18, and the homicide victim as Jaraquist Cunningham, 18.
The incident occurred Wednesday evening, shortly before 7:00 p.m., on a basketball court in Artesia.
The sheriff’s office provided no additional information regarding what occurred between the two teenagers.
Brooks’ mother contacted the sheriff’s office and asked to surrender her son.
Sheriff Eddie Hawkins spoke with Brooks’ family and arrested the 18-year-old. Investigators charged him with murder.
On Thursday, the sheriff’s office arrested Landyn Joel Brooks, 18, as a second suspect in the case.
Investigators believe Landyn Brooks helped Jaquarious Brooks destroy evidence related to the crime.
Landyn Brooks was charged with accessory after the fact.
The sheriff stated that Cunningham attended West Lowndes High School.
Jaquarious Brooks and Landyn Brooks are still in the Lowndes County Adult Detention Center, awaiting their initial appearances.
