A hit-and-run driver who killed a 27-year-old woman while making an Uber Eats delivery in Austin with her almost 2-year-old son strapped into her car has received a four-year prison sentence.
Jennifer Kelleher of Brookfield stopped in the 5000 block of West Washington around 5:45 p.m. on January 27, 2023, to make a delivery. When she got out of the car, her son was safely seated in the back seat, only a few steps away.
Prosecutors said Lydale Durr, 49, was driving his wife’s 2012 Buick down the street when he hit Kelleher. According to security footage, Durr never stopped moving. The impact propelled Kelleher into the opposite traffic lane, where she was also struck by another automobile. Paramedics transported Kelleher to Stroger Hospital, but she died about an hour later.
Durr fled and attempted to hide the Buick in an alley, according to prosecutors, but police finally located the vehicle. According to the CPD report, his driver’s license has been revoked since January 2002.
Durr was not charged in the crime until September 2025, over two years later. According to court documents, Durr pled guilty to failing to report a deadly accident and was sentenced to four years in jail by Judge William Gamboney. Durr is scheduled to be released in September 2027, after crediting time spent in jail awaiting trial and receiving the state’s normal 50% sentence reduction.
