A Dearing man has been sentenced to ten years in federal prison after being captured with huge quantities of cocaine in McDuffie County.
Shawn Duwell Grier, 54, was sentenced to 120 months in prison, a $2,500 fine, and four years of supervised release after admitting to possessing 500 grams or more of methamphetamine with the intent to distribute it.
There is no parole in the federal system; therefore, he will spend practically the entire sentence.
His co-defendant, Willie Miles, 80, of Augusta, was sentenced to five years probation after pleading guilty to possession with intent to distribute 50 grams or more of methamphetamine.
According to court filings, the Narcotics Enforcement Administration and the McDuffie County Sheriff’s Office conducted an investigation into Grier’s narcotics activity. Agents investigated Grier’s residence and discovered significant amounts of methamphetamine and cocaine.
According to investigators, Grier obtained meth from an Atlanta distributor and, in at least one instance, authorized Miles to handle the collection and delivery of the drug.
U.S. Attorney Margaret “Meg” Heap stated that the sentence removes a considerable amount of deadly drugs from local streets and applauded the collaboration between federal officials and McDuffie County deputies.
