A Georgia father returned home to discover his 4-year-old daughter submerged head-down in a large trash can filled with water and fish while her mother slept, according to police. Authorities pronounced the child dead at the hospital.
Upon arriving at their south Macon residence, the father could not locate Jayde Wooten in her room, according to an incident report obtained by WGXA. He located Jayde’s mother asleep and woke her. She informed him that Jayde was eating in the kitchen before she dozed off, the incident report states.
The father began “frantically” searching the home for Jayde, checking rooms and stepping outside to ask neighbors if they had seen her, according to the incident report. He then heard Jayde’s mother scream and rushed back inside. He found her in a small bathroom, where Jayde was submerged head-down in a large trash can filled with water and fish, the report says.
The father pulled the girl out of the trash can and carried her outside. Police later observed large puddles of water splashed around the bathroom, with a trail of water leading to the front door.
A neighbor informed police that she rushed over and began administering CPR to Jayde. She and the mother took turns providing CPR until first responders arrived.
The neighbor reported that fluids came out of Jayde’s mouth and that she opened her eyes at one point. However, another resident at the scene reported feeling no pulse, according to police.
A GoFundMe launched by her family describes Jayde’s death as a “horrible accident” that “no parent should ever have to face.”
The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office states that the investigation remains ongoing. Authorities have not released a cause of death for Jayde.
