Authorities issued a reckless driving citation to a western Kentucky driver who collided with the rear of a stopped school bus while students were disembarking on Tuesday afternoon. Deputies from the McCracken County Sheriff’s Office responded to a two-vehicle crash in the 3300 block of Olivet Church Road near Pace Drive at approximately 2:40 p.m.
Investigators determined that both the school bus and a passenger vehicle were traveling southbound when the car, operated by 48-year-old Leroy Smith of Kevil, struck the back of the bus. The bus had halted to allow children to exit, with all mandatory safety devices engaged, including the stop arm, stop sign, and flashing red lights.
Twenty-seven students were aboard the bus. One minor, non-incapacitating injury was reported among them. Mercy Regional Ambulance Service transported Smith to a local hospital, where he received treatment for non-incapacitating injuries.
