U.S. and Mexican officials announced the arrest of a key member of one of the leading factions of the Sinaloa cartel.
Salvador “N” was apprehended in the border city of Mexicali, Baja California, according to Mexico’s Secretary of Security and Citizen Protection on Friday.
He is identified as a significant financial operator for Los Chapitos, a Sinaloa cartel branch run by the sons of imprisoned drug lord Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzmán.
The Drug Enforcement Administration worked closely with Mexican authorities to identify and target Salvador “N.”This arrest is the product of ongoing intelligence, investigative, and financial work on both sides of the border,” DEA Administrator Terry Cole said on X. “We are addressing these networks at every level, from cartel leadership to the financial infrastructure that keeps them running.”
Cole praised Mexico’s Secretary of Security, Omar García Harfuch, and the relationship between the countries.
According to Harfuch, Salvador “N” is being investigated by Mexico’s Financial Intelligence Unit and the United States Department of the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control, which targets international drug cartels by freezing their assets and prohibiting them from using the US financial system.
Salvador “N” allegedly laundered funds for the Sinaloa cartel. International cooperation, founded on unfettered respect for our sovereignty, shared accountability, mutual trust, and reciprocity, improves our ability to influence criminal organizations’ financial and operational structures,” Harfuch stated on X.
Mexico does not reveal the surnames or faces of suspects unless they have been convicted of a crime.
