A pregnant woman in Kentucky was shot and killed inside a vehicle by a man who then fled into the woods, authorities in the Bluegrass State report.
Brandon Bond, 24, now faces a murder charge connected to domestic violence in the killing of 22-year-old Ava “Jane” Woodcock, according to Barren County jail records reviewed by Law&Crime. Prosecutors have also charged him with first-degree fetal homicide and first-degree fleeing or evading police on foot.
A Barren County grand jury indicted Bond on all three counts, Glasgow News reported. The incident traces back to April 6, when Woodcock was sitting inside a car along Cleveland Avenue in Glasgow, Kentucky, a city in the southern part of the state.
While she remained in the vehicle, Bond allegedly shot her and fled into the nearby woods. Emergency responders rushed to the scene, and crews transported Woodcock to a local hospital before airlifting her to the University of Louisville Hospital with life-threatening injuries, Terry Flatt, public information officer with the Glasgow Police Department, told regional NBC and CBS affiliate WNKY.
The nature of the relationship between Bond and Woodcock has not yet been made clear.
Woodcock was pronounced dead the following day. Her unborn daughter — named Neveah Marie Woodcock — also did not survive.
Glasgow police officers later located Bond in the same wooded area where authorities say he had fled. He remains held on a $2 million bond and is scheduled to appear in court on June 1.
According to Woodcock’s obituary, her “laughter was so contagious and would fill a room.” She worked at the local Walmart, “loved animals,” and dreamed of becoming a veterinarian. “She was thoughtful and caring and kind, loved everyone and everything.”
She is survived by a daughter.
